In the beginning…
Vox Harmony was started in February 2009 under the auspices of Launceston Musical Society and is directed by the ever flamboyant and energetic Denise Sam.
Since inception, we have built our membership to around 55 members and are continuing to build on our varied repertoire.
We are a non-auditioned, community choir and as such are open to all members of the community over the age of 18.
At the end of 2012, Vox Harmony was appointed as the official Choir of the City of Launceston by the Launceston City Council.
We perform at various Council functions and celebrations throughout the year, most notably on Australia Day and on ANZAC Day.
Each year there are several recurring performances, amongst others Festival of Voices in Hobart, culminating in our own fundraising concert – “Musical Moments” – in November. Vox Harmony has consistently contributed to community causes and over the years we have raised over $2000 per year for the Cancer Council, The Examiner’s Empty Stocking Appeal and the ABC’s Giving Tree Appeal.
In 2016 we embarked on a “tour” to Ballarat and Melbourne, and due to the success of this trip we are hoping to tour again in 2018 or 2019.
As a treat to ourselves – as it is such fun – and to the general public, we occasionally engage in flash singing in public areas around Launceston.
Vox Harmony provides accessible and enjoyable music and hopefully we will create a new dimension to Launceston’s vibrant local arts scene.
